Why hasn’t Viagra gone generic?

The reason that no other company is currently manufacturing a generic version of the popular erectile dysfunction drug Viagra is because the drug manufacturer, Pfizer, currently holds a patent permitting it. The patent will not expire until 2012, but there is another patent that will not expire until April of 2020. Therefore, generic Viagra is not expected to hit the market until after that.
